The Caterham Recycling Centre will now stay open between 4pm and 5pm on weekdays, exclusively for pedestrian access. That is, on a Monday, Tuesday Wednesday and Friday. This is with immediate effect.

The operator will ensure this service is used by genuine pedestrians rather than those who may choose to drive and just park up outside the site.

Surrey will update its website to inform residents that access between these times is for pedestrians only.

This arrangement will be in place for a period of three months initially to see how it goes and Surrey will review and evaluate use and consider a longer term plan to create a separate pedestrian access.

I hope residents agree that this is a much-needed response to try and cut down the amount of traffic that is queuing outside the Centre during times when it closes for compaction of waste and has caused inconvenience for other users of services along Chaldon Road, including the Buses. This will continue even when distancing regulations are relaxed.

My thanks to those residents who brought this to my attention and the Surrey Officers who listened.
